More about LifeLog

Your journal in Markdown and Obsidian

LifeLog turns your daily timeline into a plain Markdown file. Your phone creates the journal and the Windows app saves it to a folder you choose, including a folder inside an Obsidian vault.

Windows is available to download. Android is getting ready to launch.

What a daily file contains

Each day has its own file with a date, journal period and time zone. Events follow chronological order and are grouped for readable browsing. The example below uses fictional entries.

  • Sleep, workouts and summaries of available health metrics
  • Phone and computer sessions with totals for each app
  • Calendar plan titles, times and locations
  • Your notes, comments, mood and conversations with the assistant
  • A compact minute-by-minute heart rate block at the end

Where journal events come from

Choose a folder on your computer

After pairing your devices, open the Markdown section in Windows and choose a folder. LifeLog creates files inside it using the pattern LifeLog/YYYY/MM/YYYY-MM-DD.md.

For example, October 3, 2026 is saved as LifeLog/2026/10/2026-10-03.md. The app does not delete your chosen folder or its other files.

On Android, the computer icon in the day header opens the sync panel. It shows delivery status and lets you manually sync the selected day.

Read your journal in Obsidian

An Obsidian vault is a regular folder of notes. You can select an existing vault as the destination folder in Windows, or open your export folder as a separate Obsidian vault.

The files open as ordinary Markdown notes. You do not need a dedicated LifeLog plugin to read them, and you can browse your journal alongside your own notes.

LifeLog does not require Obsidian. Any editor that opens Markdown will work. The example above uses synthetic entries.

How to open a folder as an Obsidian vault

Your phone manages the daily files

Export is one-way: edits to Markdown on your computer are not imported into the app. When LifeLog next transfers a file, it replaces it with the phone version, including any manual edits.

Edit events and comments in Android. For additional writing in Obsidian, create your own notes outside the managed daily files and link them to the journal.

Late entries and corrections on your phone can update earlier days. The current day is updated as new data arrives.

Transfers and backups

Markdown transfers need both your phone and computer to be available and connected to the internet. Our server is a channel between your devices and does not store Markdown files. If either device is unavailable, transfer waits for the next connection.

Photos are currently not transferred to the Windows folder; the journal records their count. Markdown does not replace a full backup. Use the ZIP backup in Android settings to restore the journal and photos.
